That is pretty spot on David, you seem to be all over this stuff, so make sure you read the car setup in the rookie guide. It explains it in more detail, but the short version is - your car setup for next race looks like this...
Wings - 320
Engine - 670
Brakes 730
Gear - 450
Suspension - 820

but in reality, your PERFECT setup might be

Wings - 337
Engine - 626
Brakes 747
Gear - 442
Suspension - 874
( I just made those numbers up ok?) They aren't right. When you do your initial car setup, just plucking some number out of a hat that the driver says - "I'm ok with that" does not mean that is the best setting for that particular part. It varies between cars and drivers, but most drivers have a range between 50 to 70 points either side of their optimal setting where they will still say - "I'm ok with that"
The trick is finding (or getting as close as possible to) that optimal number.
The car setup guide in the rookie section will hopefully explain it some more.
THEN, once you have those optimal settings, your formula up there at the top can be applied for Q2 and race setup. Very Happy

and also, unless you are going to be out of town for a few days, there is no benefit to qualifying earlier, so better to hold back a bit, see what others are doing and then work out your strategy.

Thanks Gazz, its nice to know im heading in the right direction.

given my quick spreedsheet i made up for the weather changes from Q1 to Q2, then taking the 4 sections of the race average weather, my final set up looks like this for Bucharest

Wings - 306
Engine - 681
Brakes 714
Gear - 461
Suspension - 837

the results of this race will be very interesting to see how my math is, i still have no idea of the ideal tyre choice or fuel set up, but that will come later, if i spend this pre qualifing time b4 access to your SS, i can try and get a better understanding of this part of it

Yep, you have definitely got the hang of the effects the weather has on setup mate. Just don't forget the initial setup for Q1 is the most important part.

If your driver tells you that he is happy with the brakes setup from 429 all the way to 529, your fastest setup would be 479, and even being 10 to 20 points away from the ideal setup will lose you heaps of time per lap - even though the driver says its ok it is still not ideal. Once you get that ideal setup for all car parts in Q1, your addition / subtraction spreadsheet will make sure your Q2 and race setup are ideal as well.

Just a question, thought i would pop it in here rather than make a new thread.

As a team i thought i might see more set up help before each race, as simple as what numbers people are running for their set ups as oppose to just pit strategy. im sure all our starting numbers would be very close before driver and parts make a difference, or does your SS program give you guys the advice you need to set them before you even do your first practice run?

David,

That's right, the SS gives exact numbers for your SS so no need to post. Also with driver and car differences are quite large from member to member. If you need help in the meantime just post and somebody will try.

These values will be roughly near where you need to be ( maybe within 200 to 300 )
as we have no idea what level wear your parts are its impossible to get much closer than a guess.

Front Wing - 700
Rear Wing - 700
Engine - 700
Brakes - 300
Gearbox - 200
Suspension - 900

1st lap feed back, at least its feed back, i know in bat racer you could do lap after lap and get nothing, lol

Practice lap 1 comments from your driver:

Wings: The car is lacking some speed in the straights
Engine: The engine revs are too high
Brakes: I would like to have the balance a bit more to the front
Gear: I am very often in the red. Put the gear ratio a bit higher

So you need to drop the wings (both), and engine by 64. Increase the gearbox, brakes and suspension by 64, and see if that gets the parts into the happy zone (and suspension -out of the happy zone)

just looking at the last race at Bahrain, the total time of the race was 1hour 29mins yet we have the weather for 4 x 30mins sections.

So does your SS weight the weather change to the total time spent racing?

if a race goes for 1hour and 40mins that last 30mins of weather isnt as important as the 1st 3 sections.

Im trying to think of a way to weight it, maybe by the number of laps done in that 30mins weather period?

With regards to the bahrain race the 4 weather sets saw an average temp of 15.875 degrees, but if i only took the first 3 sections the average temp would have been 16.166 degrees, so effectively i could have had a better set up and ran faster from that 1 degree setting.

Thoughts any 1?

Singapore Track
My Q2 lap - 1m 40.208s
......................................Seconds ...laps done 61 ..............Percet
Q2 lap time in Seconds....100.208.................... race laps... 1.639344262
1st lap............................100.208.....1..............60............. 1.639344262
30mins =........................1800..........17.96...... 42.04 .........29.44694707
30mins =........................1800......... 17.96...... 24.07......... 29.44694707
30mins = .......................1800 .........17.96 ......6.11 ...........29.44694707
30mins = .......................1800 ..........6.11 .......0.00............ 10.01981452
..........................................................................................100%

this is what i have so far, now i need to work out how to effect those percentage to the actual weather average per 30mins? which can be seen in my initial post of the weather spreadsheet above

The weather is a forecast for the full two hours which is the maximum length any race can run for.

The spreadsheet works out stints and weather how similar to how you describe yes. Ie. if a stint lasts longer than 30 minutes it will take into account the weather in both the first and second quarter.
